Croatia is a democratic republic. The president (presently Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović) is elected by popular vote for a five-year term. The prime minister is Tihomir Oreškov. The Croatian Parliament (Sabor) is elected for a four-year term.

The Croatian economy is a service-based economy, the most important service branches are tourism and transport. The country's revenue from tourism is about 7 billion Euro. As for agricultural sector, in the area between Drava and Sava rivers wheat, corn, potato and sugar-beet are grown. The most important agricultural products on the coast are olive oil, lavender and wine. Fishing plays an important role, as well. The industrial sector is dominated by ship building, chemical and textile industry. The oil terminal at Omišalj is the starting point of Adria oil pipeline.
