Vodice is a small fishing willage 11 km to the north from Šibenik. The firts written record of the settlement dates back to the 15th century, the Church of the Holy Cross was built at that time. Although the village consisted of only a few houses, fairs were hold at regular times where goods of the local farmers and craftsmen changed hands. Vodice was surrounded by a wall in the 15th century and at the town gate an inn (bazana) stood. Those who came to the fair had to leave their horses and arms here. At the site of the bazana the building of the library from 1878 is situated. After the Turks were driven out, the stones of the town wall were carried off and used for the building of new houses.
