Feast of St Blaise in Dubrovnik

Saint of Dubrovnik

ImageThe feast of the patron saint of Dubrovnik, St Blaise is one of the most ancient and prominent events in the Dalmatian town. The opening ceremony takes place on Candlemass Day (2nd of February) when as the symbol of liberty and peace white doves are released in front of the Church of St Blaise and the flag of St Blaise is risen on Orlando’s Column. On St Blaise’s Day (3rd of February) the relics of St Blais are carried around in a huge procession in the old town paying respect to the saint who has been depicted with the model of the town in his hand for centuries.

The Feast of St Blaise is also the Day of Dubrovnik when politicians and diplomats visit the city to take part in the award ceremony in Marin Držić Theatre and the gala dinner held in Fort Revelin.

The event series that includes numerous cultural programmes such as concerts, performances, exhibitions and book presentations lasts until the 5th of February.
