Croatia’s most luxurious hotels were built in the 19th century for the aristocracy of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Due to foreign investors these beautiful buildings are undergoing a revival.

Hotel Palace-Bellevue*** – Opatija

One of the oldest and most impressive hotels in Opatija – at least from outside. Within the richly decorated white walls the hotel’s interior is rather modest. The facade still bears the original Grand Hotel title but the present name refers to two neighbouring buildings, Hotel Bellevue and Grand Hotel Palace. The balconies boast a fabolous view over the beach.

Hotel Palace Therapia**** - Crikvenica

It was built in 1895 in Secession style. Just like in Opatija, in the Austro-Hungarian era guests visited the Croatian coast to take advantage of the climate as a therapy – the name of the hotel comes from this. However the original name of this masterpiece was Nadvojvoda Josip named after the Habsburg emperor, Franz Josef. The Regent Esplanade***** – Zagreb

Located in the immediate vicinity of the main railway station, this luxurious hotel was constructed in 1925 to accomodate passengers of the world-renowned Orient Express train. Since the opening it hosted such celebrities as Josephine Baker, Charles Lindbergh, Woody Allen and Louis Armstrong. Its spacious rooms and suites are furnished with top quality materials and marble.

Hilton Imperial***** - Dubrovnik

A pearl of Dalmatian hotels from 1895. Renovated a few years ago, its new owner preserved its original beauty and combined it with modern facilities. The hotel rooms overlook the historical town of Dubrovnik.
